Seed Pods and Seeds

“These pieces were created after I had made the impossible decision to terminate a pregnancy during my time at university. Looking back it was an easy decision, but it was an emotional and physical ordeal, to say the least, and used the creation of the pods as therapy. I would get lost in the build of the pods, and then lost again in the creation of the seeds.”

“I was interested in the symbolism of seed pods, and fertility in general. More specifically, I was interested in how a seed pod sacrifices itself for its future children. I knew I wasn’t in a good place, and couldn’t bring a child into my situation. It was important to me to keep the carvings with the pods, and this creates an interesting relationship between the pod and the seeds.”
